How to Use Wax Melts Properly

Beginner’s Guide to Cozy, Flame-Free Fragrance

There’s something special about walking into a home that smells warm, inviting, and comforting. The right fragrance doesn’t just scent a room — it creates a mood, a memory, a cozy moment.

If you’re new to wax melts, you might be wondering:

  • How do you use wax melts?

  • What do you need to melt them?

  • Are they better than candles?

This beginner-friendly guide will show you exactly how to use wax melts properly — and how to get the best fragrance experience from them.

What Are Wax Melts?

Wax melts are small, scented cubes made of wax that release fragrance when warmed.

Unlike traditional candles, wax melts do not have a wick. Instead of burning them, you gently heat them in a wax warmer to release their scent.

They’re a flame-free, safe, and customizable way to make your home smell incredible.

What You Need to Use Wax Melts

Before you start, here’s what you’ll need:

1️⃣ Wax Melt Cubes

Choose your favorite scent (or mix scents for something unique). At PrismaCasa Design, we currently offer 3 different scents (Cabane Bourbon, Twilight Berry and Vanilla Orchid). Since we love to vary the smells at our home, we certainly plan on making way more different scents.

2️⃣ A Wax Warmer

There are two main types:

Electric Wax Warmers

  • Plug into the wall

  • Use a warming plate or bulb

  • No open flame

  • Perfect for everyday cozy moments

Tealight Wax Burners

  • Use a small tealight candle underneath

  • Create a warm glow

  • Slightly more traditional feel

If you want a fully flame-free experience, choose an electric warmer.

That’s it. No matches. No trimming wicks. No smoke.

How to Use Wax Melts Properly (Step-by-Step)

Step 1: Place a Cube in the Dish

Break off one wax melt cube and place it in the top dish of your warmer.

👉 You don’t need more than one cube for most rooms.

Step 2: Turn On Your Warmer

  • Plug in your electric warmer and switch it on
    OR

  • Light your tealight candle

Within minutes, the wax will begin to melt and release fragrance.

Step 3: Enjoy the Fragrance

As the wax melts, it slowly fills your space with scent.

Depending on the size of your room and airflow, you’ll usually notice the fragrance within 5–10 minutes.

This is the perfect time to:

  • Make tea

  • Light a fireplace

  • Put on cozy music

  • Relax under a blanket

Step 4: When the Scent Fades

Wax melts don’t evaporate — only the fragrance oils burn off.

When you can no longer smell the scent:

  • Turn off the warmer

  • Let the wax cool

  • Remove the hardened wax

  • Add a fresh cube

Tip: To remove wax easily, place the dish with the wax in the freezer once it's cooled. After a few minutes the piece of wax will come out easily.

How Many Wax Melt Cubes Should You Use?

For most spaces:

  • Small room → 1 cube

  • Large open area → 1–2 cubes

Using more won’t necessarily make it stronger — it just uses product faster.
