Why We Only Print With PLA — A Safer, Greener Choice

When people hear the word plastic, they often think of overflowing landfills, pollution, and harmful chemicals. At PrismaCasa Design, we understand that concern — and that’s why we carefully choose the materials we use. Every one of our 3D-printed creations is made with PLA, a bioplastic that’s worlds apart from traditional petroleum-based plastics.

What Is PLA?

PLA stands for Polylactic Acid. It’s a type of bioplastic made from renewable resources such as corn starch or sugarcane. Unlike conventional plastics, which rely on fossil fuels, PLA is derived from plants — meaning it comes from nature, not oil.

Why PLA Is Better for the Environment

  • Renewable origin: PLA is made from plants that can be regrown, reducing our dependence on non-renewable petroleum.

  • Lower carbon footprint: Producing PLA generates significantly less greenhouse gas than manufacturing traditional plastics.

  • Compostable under the right conditions: While it’s not something you can toss in your backyard compost, PLA can be industrially composted, breaking down into natural components without releasing toxins.

  • Less pollution: Because it’s biodegradable in proper facilities, it helps reduce the long-term waste problem associated with conventional plastics.

Health and Safety Matter

We care deeply about families — including our own — and want every product from our workshop to be safe to handle and display. PLA emits minimal fumes during printing, unlike materials such as ABS, which can release strong odors and volatile compounds. This makes PLA a cleaner and safer choice for both the people who print and those who enjoy the finished products in their homes.

Our Commitment

At PrismaCasa Design, we’re passionate about creating beautiful, functional pieces while keeping health and sustainability at the heart of what we do. That’s why we will always print exclusively with PLA — a material that aligns with our values of creativity, safety, and environmental care.

Because for us, it’s not just about what we make — it’s about how we make it.
