Maple Bacon Jam Grilled Cheese

Maple Bacon Jam Grilled Cheese

Grilled cheese is already one of life's great comfort foods. Crispy, buttery bread. Melty cheese. Ready in minutes.

But add a layer of maple bacon whisky jam and it turns into something else entirely: sweet, smoky, salty and a little bit fancy, without any extra work.

This is my go-to when I want a quick lunch that feels like a treat. 🥪🥓🍁

🧀 Maple Bacon Jam Grilled Cheese

Makes 2 sandwiches · Prep 5 min · Cook 10 min

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of sourdough bread (or any sturdy bread)
  • 2 tbsp softened butter (or mayonnaise for the outside, for an extra-crispy crust)
  • 3–4 tbsp Provisions Maple Bacon Whisky Jam
  • 1 cup (about 100 g) shredded aged cheddar
  • 50 g brie or Gruyère, thinly sliced
  • Optional: a few thin slices of apple (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)

Instructions

  1. Butter the outside. Spread butter (or mayo) on one side of each slice of bread.
  2. Add the jam. Flip 2 slices over and spread the unbuttered side with a generous layer of maple bacon jam, about 1½–2 tbsp per sandwich.
  3. Build it. Top the jam with half of the cheddar, the brie or Gruyère, and the apple slices if using. Finish with the rest of the cheddar so the cheese holds everything together. Close with the remaining bread, buttered side out.
  4. Cook low and slow. Heat a pan over medium-low heat. Cook the sandwiches for 4–5 minutes per side, pressing lightly with a spatula, until the bread is deep golden and the cheese is fully melted.
  5. Rest and slice. Let them sit for 1 minute, then cut in half. Watch that cheese pull. 😍

💡 Tips for the perfect grilled cheese

  • Keep the heat low. The jam has sugar and maple syrup, so high heat can burn the bread before the cheese melts.
  • Cover the pan for the first couple of minutes to help the cheese melt faster.
  • Shred your own cheddar. It melts more smoothly than pre-shredded cheese.

🔥 Make it your own

  • Sweet heat: add a light drizzle of Provisions Hot Honey inside before closing the sandwich.
  • Brunch version: add a fried egg and some baby arugula.
  • Grown-up melt: swap the cheddar for aged Gouda or a Québec cheese like Oka.

🍅 What to serve with it

A bowl of tomato soup is the classic. A simple green salad or a few dill pickles on the side also cut through the richness perfectly.

Simple. Cheesy. Seriously good.

One jar of Maple Bacon Whisky Jam makes several sandwiches, and it's just as good on burgers, cheese boards and breakfast sandwiches. Once you try it in a grilled cheese, there's no going back. 🧀🥓🍁
